Do you feel that standardized testing is a fair evaluation of what a student has learned during a school year? What other methods should be used to evaluate student learning and promotion? Explain in detail.

Yes I do feel that standardized testing is a fair evaluation of what students have learned. Why I feel that way is because the students that have not learned anything because of their behavior are going to fail and be failures. The students that have learned something will be able to go to seventh grade. Some other methods that can be used for the children is to have a study class after school and help the children with stuff they still don’t understand. A promotion I would have for the kids is to pay attention.

I think that the test is fair because if the school board wants to know if we students have learned anything throughout the school year they have that right. I would like to see if I have a passing grade.There could be some other ways than taking a test. They could add up all our grades and see. But I like this way better because if the student was cheating then they would find out by the test.

I will have to disagree that if I failed the test that I should be held back because I think that the people who want to pass to the next grade should go to the next grade. Not eveybody is very very smart but I think that some people deserve another chance and let them try to get a new start. Then there are people who try so hard but have to go to summer school.

I think that we should not have to take one test that says if we pass or not. That could be a bad day that we are having. Somehting could be going on in our famliy. We could have lost a loved one that was very close to us.They should look at our gardes and our behavior. No one should be held back for one small test.That goes to show that the people who say if we pass or not are not even thinking about what we are going through at home or at school.

I think it is fair because all the things you learn in school is the same thing that will be on the test. Other people might feel that it is not fair because they don`t feel like doing the test or homework. When you take tests, it helps the teacher know were you at, and what you have been learning the past months. I also think it’s fair because you might be able to learn something new that you haven`t learned before. The test should be evaluating our promotion to the next grade. There should not be any reason that we don`t know something on that test. We should be able to pass it.

I think that the ISAT test is not fair because some people get nervous. An important test like this makes people nervous. I think that the teacher’s grades should pass or not pass a kid. The poeple who are grading the ISAT do not know what the students learned because they are not in they classroom every day .

I think that maybe a monthly test should be used to determine if we could go to the next grade. Also you shouldn’t have to go to summer school for missing just 1 point. That is not right if you can`t go to the next grade if you missed 1 point.That`s really not fair.

I think its is fair that we take the test because the state just wants to know what we have been taught and if our testing scores are good enough to pass to the next grade. Without good testing scores you cant pass to the next grade unless you go to summer school. In summer school you will have to take the isat test again. If you don’t pass the isat test in summer school you will have to go back to the same grade you were in. But the good thing in all of this is when you go back to that and have to take the isat you willl know all of the questions and answer. Another method that the state should use is testing the teachers to see if they remember what they taught thier student . Then they should match up the teachers isat and students isat and see if they both match.

I agree because i don’t think that there is any other test that we would have to take so we could go to the next grade. Taking the ISAT TEST is like taking a spelling test or math test. The ISAT test is like a huge grade because that grade and test would tell if you are going to the next grade or not and besides the ISAT TEST is easy. Maybe some people don’t think that taking the ISAT is fair because they don’t feel like taking it and they are not ready but the rest of the people are ready and they know that it’s fair.

I think it is fair that standarized testing should show that the child is ready to move on to the next grade. If the child has not learned or payed attention to the lesson they should repeat it to move on to the next grade. Once the child has shown that he learned what the teacher has shown since the beginning of the school year, the test will show if he/she is ready. If they fail, summer school is where he/she will try to better themselves. If they fail summer school they’ll have to repeat that grade.

I think that taking a test to see if you should go to the seventh grade is fair. I say that because during the beginning of the school year you learn all of the steps you need to thats in your stage. Would you rather have a nice teacher who does’nt care about your education. Those are my thoughts about that situation.

I think that it’s not fair to have to pass a test in order to move to the next grade. It really should only be the report cards that give out grades and be the main one for the students to pass.

Yes, I think it is fair because all the teachers are trying to do is see what you have learned duringthe school year. They are also trying to see if you have been paying attention to them and the work they have been giving you. If I have good grades but I failed the test I think I should be promoted to the seventh grade or take the test over but if I had bad scores and I failed the test I should go to summer school. I wonder if I had bad grades and I pass the test would I go to seventh grade? My cousin had very good grades but she failed the test but she also got a chance to take the test over and she passed. She also went to seventh grade.

No. I think that if we do fail the ISAT test that we shouldn’t be held accountable. But if I do fail the test then it won’t be so easy trying to find a new school. For example, next year i’m going to an all girls charter school. That test is serious to them. That is a REALLY good school. If we get held back then that means it won’t be because we didn’t do our work, it’s because we didnt even try. That’s why this year I’m working twice as hard.

I feel that we should not have to take the Isat because it is just too much for us kids. Every year the adults put a lot of stress on us. Some ways the adults can evaluate us is to give us take home test and give us more time to study. If they can do that to help us then we will not stressed out.

I do feel that standardized testing is a fair evaluation of what a student has learned this year. I think that they should give a test every month to review what we had learned. I think that the ISAT is a good idea too but it comes only once every year.The ISAT also determines if you go to the next grade also with your regular class grades.This week we are taking the ISAT hopefully at the end I get a good score and go to the next grade which is 7th.

yes. I think that the isat test is good to take to see if you pass. I also think that you should get all A,B,C, to determine if you pass or fail.

I do think that the only thing they should look at to see if we pass is the Isat test. I say this because some students are not able to come to school because of family problems. Another reason is because many students do not like to pay attenion in school so yes.

I think they shouldn’t give us anything because the isat is already difficult. And I also think they should look at our work throughout the school year and our report cards because some people might almost pass the ISAT but they couldn’t because they miss one question but if they look at the report cards and work it would problaly raise their score so they can pass.

I think that the test should not be the only thing they should grade. I think that they should grade every thing we have because if somebody misses the whole test they will fail the grade. That would be wrong. If they did that I would be so disappointed because I don’t know if I would pass or not. So that shouldn’t be the only thing they should grade.
