Due to the recent gun violence that has taken place in schools in Illinois, do you consider your school and neighborhood to be a safe place? What do feel is the solution to the gun violence problem that we have in America? Explain in detail.

Yes I think my school and neighborhood is a safe place. I say that because in woodlawn it is a safe place because it has security at the front doors that lock and all that. At some schools they dont have all of that. I feel like all the violence need to stop this day forward because people can not keep losing people in their life. Maybe if the crime and violence would stop the world would be a a lot better. It would be better because other people could be together all the time, stay close and don’t have to worry about losing anybody.

The way I feel about gun violence is that it needs to stop. This gun violence is very irritating and not very cheerful to hear about or see. Once you see someone getting shot or killed is very hurting. The person that killed that person don’t want anyone to kill anybody that is close to them or that they love. If someone killed the person I love very much like my mother I might just have a fit but I don’t think I would kill anybody for all that matter but I might hurt somebody instead. You know what it’s like for somebody to get shot that you know or maybe you don’t. It just doesn’t make any sense how many people are dying these days. I just can’t believe what i’m hearing these days in America.

Too many Chicago students have got shot over hats and popularity. Today gang violence has went too far all over money and because one gang don’t like anthoner. Today some kids say that they are scared to even go to school and that’s a shame. I say that there is definitely a way to fix this.

I think that I do feel protected at Woodlawn Community School because it’s safe and you don’t hear much about woodlawn doing something really bad but you hear a lot of good things about Woodlawn Community. When I’m in my neighberhood i feel safe on one side but the other I’m not because down the street from 69 street there are gangbangers and drug dealers. The solution for gun violence is that people should not make guns anymore unless it is for the policemen or women.

Due to all this recent gun violence I think that no school or neighborhood is safe. It has got to the point where my mother does not let me take out the garbage after dark. I feel that we should have more police in the street than in the station.
We should not have people that are in gangs at the age of 13 and 12. This has gotten to the point that more people spend time in jail than in school. This makes me feel as if one of my classmates are going to pull out a gun on me.

I really don’t know but so far it’s okay. On the Fourth Of July, some kids down the street were playing with guns and replaced the bullets with fire crackers. They were shooting them at the cars and pedestrians (people who are walking). My house can be safe sometimes because these three thug members were walking past the house last summer, and started yelling at me and my cousin. Leanna and I were calling them names. Then they were trowing rocks at the window.

I think everybody lives in a dangerous place. The world is dangerous. I am aware of my area and I am home before dark. If everybody does this then the world could be a little better. If I get hurt by the madness I could not help it to cry.

I do not consider my school a safe place because any gang member can come from any place and shoot out in front of our school and someone and be shot. I also don`t consider my neighborhood safe because I see people in black every day. They shoot out in the projects 2 blocks away from my house and at the park 3 blocks away from my house also. There is nothing we can do to stop it, they have their own minds. All we can do is try to be safe.

Yes, I think that Woodlawn community is safe. No I do not think that around my house is safe becaues 2 people got killed by gun violence and 1 person got shot. And they are still at war. Around where I live they call it killa ward and who they are at war with is called 80 babies. Also I will think that they will stop becaues there friend and family are geting killed. And the world is becoming worse.

Sometimes I do think my school and neighbrood is safe and sometimes I don’t. At my house there is shooting in the backyard
at night. I feel the soluton to keep me safe is to have officers at the corner of the street. I thnk that they should
have night patrol so that they could keep volence from happening in the night time. I feel that for my school it is very safe but,
it couldn’t hurt to be a little more safe. What if what happened at the other school could have happened at Woodlawn. They could have picked any school but thank goodness they didn’t pick our school.

I do feel that my school is safe. However I do not feel that my grandma’s neighborhood is safe. There has been many drive by’s. There was this one girl I knew that got shot but she didnt die. It took about two months for the bullet to be removed. Not only is there gun violence there are people who think they can drive crazy so there are chidren who get killed. There was one girl who got killed because there was this man who was driving too fast and hit the girl and kept going. A solution we should use to solve these problems are to have more police on these streets.

I do not beleive that my neighborhood is a safe place.Around my neighborhood there is shooting, drug selling, wild parties and car crahses.The only sancturary around my neighborhood is inside my house.I was nearly murderd around my house.When I was outside somebody told me to duck when there was going to be a shooting.Luckily I did but the shots wer’nt near me.Though, at Woodlawn it is safe.The only violence is physical contact.Thats the only flaw in this school when it comes to fighting.I only believe that when The U.S.A gets a good president the violence will stop.

I don’t think my neighborhood is a very safe place because people hang around smoking and drinking around the school at night. Also there are a lot of loose dogs around the school. I think that A solution to stop every body from killing each other is to stop the store from
selling guns and other weapons.

Yes,I do consider my school a safe place. At a certain time of day my school lock the doors to make sure no one just come in our school and start shoooting. As for my neighborhood yes I do consider my neighborhood a safe place too. Everyone in my apartment building knows me the people on the first and second floor because we live on the third floor. A solution that can solve this problem is to get guns out of stores. Instead of building gun stores we can have more hotels in the city, more restaraunts, and most of all more muesuems. When some people are walking home from school or taking the bus there is gang violence why who knows. If I could sit down and talk to the govenor or president I would tell him/her it is ashame. STOP this gang violence please just STOP the gang violence. Maybe some people that care in this world should protest on guns and gang violence and put these non-careless black african-american men and women in jail.

I think my neighborhood is safe because when I came here in the middle of last year,the nieghorhood was quiet and calm.The school is close to the firestation so if any kids get the idea of burning the school it would’nt take long. The oniy gang I’ve been in is G.P. That stands for God’s Property. That invovles no violence at all.

Due to the recent gun violence I have lost a friend from my old school. I feel that on my block there is too much gun violence. On sunday night I was walking home from my little morning job at a candy store and I heard some gun shots so I hopped into the dumpster. What the adults can do is they can have police do a night block roam, or have more cams up in the sreet so us kids can play.

I feel that my nieghborhood is a very safe nieghborhood. There are 3 police men and women in our nieghborhood. So we are all safe. I`m not sure our school is so safe. The other school down the street is not so safe. Police men are always down there. I don`t know if that is safe!

I consider my school an unsafe place because people shoot around the nieghborhood, and if you try to tell the principal about a certain problem he would’nt listen so he’ll never believe you, and if you keep telling him someones doing something wrong he’ll ignore you.
My nieghorborhood is safe enough where you could be friendly with everyone around that I know of because I live in Harlem, out in the suburbs.
I think the gun violence problem in america is awful I really hope Obama does what he has to do if/when he becomes president of the United states of america.

I do feel that my school is a safe place to be but my neighborhood is not a good place to live. As you know I live in the hood but I live on the good side of tthe street in my neighborhood everbody keeps quiet. On the other side of the street its the not so good side. It has a lot of gang bangers, drug dealers, and fighting. There are people who really use guns,people who use dugs, and in drive by’s. There is a lot of things that are going on in my community(my neighborhood). Now my school is very safe place to be and I’m not just saying that even though I’m kind of a trouble maker it is very safe. I feel the soulution should be to ONLY give guns to police and detectives and also SWAT. It does’nt matter you have a gun id or to be able to get one or to steal one from somebody you should not have one just the police detectives and SWAT. So thats what I feel should happen.

I don’t think anywhere but heaven is a safe place to go. as they say the world is small and what they mean by that is that the more people getting killed the smaller the world will get. In a world with gun violence nobody’s life is long. I think the problem is jealousy. The reason I think jealousy is because that’s the main reason why people are getting killed. If somenody sees something they like on someone they don’t go up to them and say a good comment and walk away. What they do is take their life or beat them up and take their belongings. I remember when my 2 brothers and two of their friends were walking down this alley (in the back of our house we just moved in) and there were these boys who tried to jump on my brother’s friend. Then they started fighting. One of their friends ran home. My brothers stayed because they didn’t want that boy to be fighting by himself. My oldest brother got is shoes taken and my other brother got mad because they had tripped my oldest brother and made him scrape his leg. My other brother went to go get a bat and came back and started hitting one of the boys so hard (it was with a metal bat) the boy had to get put in the hospital. To me this make no sense.

Yes! I do consider my school a safe place because you don’t see people getting killed or people getting robbed and stuff like that, but my neighborhood is a very bad place and not a safe place because when i am walking to the store i am scared because i think somebody is going to shoot at me because almost everday somebody gets killed or shot over weed. And I just think I shouldn’t be around my neighborhood because sometimes I think I would get shot or killed. Also I can relate to this because my sister’s boy friend was shot in his head trying to run home because somebody set him up. My sister was outside watching him get shot in the head and falling down to the ground. She cried. And another person who got shot was a man named Cin-que; he was only 23 and the other boy name was Andrew and he was 20. Cin-que got shot twice in his back over drugs. He was talkin or selling drugs to this person and then cin-que tried to run and the other man pulled out a gun and shot him tiwce. When the ambulance came they tried to shock him to bring him back to life but he didn’t make it. So i think the solution to these gun violence is to take away everybody’s gun and stop selling guns and to lock up all the people who are gang banging so they can stop shooting and killing. Another thing is they should also lock up the people who are killing little boys and girls for their stuff and all this violence is going to come to an end some day. I mean ever WORD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, I do consider my neighborhood a safe place because I have been living there all of my life. A year before I was born my mom and dad were living there. I think that CHICAGO POLICE should be the only ones with guns. They should take every single gun that there is in Chicago. This is what I think they should do.

I feel that my school is a safe place but not my neighborhood. Over the weekend (March 29 - 30)
one of my friends who’s a boy 14 yrs old was caught with a gun and other things that wasn’t his and he got shot once in his leg.
My neighborhood is not safe because people are shooting, gang members are on the corner. I feel the solution is to BAN ALL GUNS OUT in state of Illionis period. I really think they should because I think it will be less crime in America.
I think my school is safe because there’s no gun violence in my school. My school is a community school and I think anyone in my school who brings guns to school can be kicked out of the school! That’s how i feel about all of these crazy things in the world today….

I don’t think my school is a safe place because it is a public school and anybody can come into a public school. Teachers have been robbed like how someone stole Ms.williams’ digital camera and her wallet. I don’t think my neighborhood is safe either. Life on Drexel is hard. On Friday night went out and a person in the passenger side of a black car rode past him and shot 2 bullets at him.

What I consider a safe place is my home because you have people that care for you and protect you. They would do anything to keep you safe! I think that we should take away the privilege to walk with guns in our pockets. We should take guns out of the state and then take all of the guns out of the country!!!!!!! We should stop this violence against women,children,and the rest of the people of this earth!!!!I hope that they will stop this violence once and for all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No, I do not think that my school is a safe place. I think that because my teacher said that this is a public building meaning that anyone from anywhere can come into this building. The reason I do not feel safe is because if there is someone in this building that does not belong, they can hurt you or probably take you and kill you. That is why I do not think my school is safe. Do you agree?
Yes! I think my neiborhood is safe because every time I walk down my block everyone says hi or good afternoon or even good morning.That is why I think my neighborhood is safe. A way to keep gun violence off of the streets is to get police officers,investigators and any other helpful people to search people’s homes for guns and by the time two years passes this place will be nonviolent. I don’t think any school is safe.because anything might happen when kids are going to school or getting out of school. I just don’t know why people like to kill kids. My cousin got killed last month because his friend asked him for some socks and my cousin did’nt have them. My cousin’s friend shot and killed him in school because he did’nt have the socks he needed. I think they should stop killing people for stupid reasons.

Yes,I think my school is a safe place because there is no shooting around my school from what Iv’e heard . I think the violence should stop because little boys, girls, and adults are getting shot and killed for no reason
. Also I feel my school is a safe place because we have a secruity guard to protect us from getting hurt. We. I think where I live is a good neighborhood because there is nobody getting shot or killed around where I live 
. I hope my neighborhood stays that way . I can relate to this because on the news I heard this boy got shot at his school Simeon because a man or boy hollered at him and the boy hollored back at the man or boy and pulled out his gun and shot the little boy . And thats all I can say about gun violence and making sure my neighborhood a safe place .

I don’t consider my school as a safe place because there have been too many incidents around my school. One of the incidents that happened was that a teenage girl got snached on her way to school. I consider my home a safe place becuase I’ve been living on Crandon since I was 2 years old. I feel that we can stop gun violence by having no guns around people that are not in the army.

My school is a safe place because my school has a great security guard in front of the school. Also Mr.Embil knows a lot about staying safe so I think he would do anything to keep our school safe from gangs,thugs and gun violence. My neighborhood is not a safe place to be in. During spring break me and my sister heard shooting. I was so frightened because that was the first time in my life i’ve heard gun shots. Another reason why I know my neighborhood is not safe is because there is a lot of people and I see mean people with guns in their hands. I saw numerous gangs with guns in their hands and all I do is just go in the house and mind my own business. I think that peple need to just stop killing people.

Yes,I feel that my school is a safe place because we have a at least two people who sit at the front door. So if someone decides to come in then they have to sign their name, then go to the office and tell them what they need. That is one reason that I feel safe at school. Another reason is that if somone is trying to take something or someone and they know that they aren’t going to be able to get in from the front door they cann’t get in thourgh any other doors because they are locked.
No,I don’t feel safe in my neighborhood most of the time because of what my friends and myself have to see. For example, my siblings, my friends, and myself were outside and there was a man trying to run from the police. He stopped at a four way street. I would say that that was a stupid mistake. Police came from north ,south, east ,and west of the street.The man got out of the car and tried to run but he couldn’t .The police got out of their cars with their guns and told him to get on the ground or they were going to shoot. He got down on the ground. They put his hands behind his back and put him in the car.That is why I don’t feel safe.

I feel that my school is safe because nothing really happens so I feel safe. The only thing you hear is the sirens and nothing else. I also feel that my neighborhood is safe because there is a church next to where I live. That might be why there isn’t any violence or gun violence, because God is protecting me and my family. I would send police officers to people’s houses to see if they have guns. And if they do I would send them to jail.

I think my neighborhood is safe because it is quiet and there is no arguing and no gun violence. My neighborhood is safe because the people on my block are able to walk their dogs up and down and all around my bock. On my bock kids can just go outside and play and go over somebody’s house and not get shot or killed. I don’t think my school is safe because when the kids get out of school they can get beat up or kidnapped. All I am just trying to say is nobody is really safe because you can get killed any where even in the morning, night, and afternoon. It is not really safe!!!!

Yes, I do consider our school as a safe place because we don’t have strangers walking the halls during or after school. And in the morning the doors are locked and only teachers and afterschool kids can come in. One way the school isn’t safe is because children that go to this school have to wait until 8:15 to get in the school. You don’t know what may happen there could be a shooting where somebody is running down the street and they accidently shoot one of the students that go to this school. The school is not held reposible for us in the morning . That’s why children should always come to school after 8:15 they should come at 8:20 or 8:16. I do think my neighborhood is safe because my neighborhood is quite. But then I think my neighborhood isn’t safe when i walk to school. When I walk to school by myself I think something might happen to me because I am hearing about all these shootings and I think I might get shot if I am at the wrong place at the wrong time. Also when I walk to the store I think somebody might come in the store and try to rob the store.

I feel that my school is not safe because if the doors are open anybody can come into this school. That is a problem beccause the person that comes in might have a hidden gun somewhere. Also a student can have a hidden gun. I feel the best thing to do to sovle this problem is to take all the gun stores off the street. I feel my neighborhood is not safe. I think that because gangs of people always pick a day to shoot like on a warm nice day when the kids come outside. Also one of those people almost shot me and my friends but he missed us instead he shot a 16 year old boy. After that I do not trust my nieborhood any more. I think they can fix this problem by making the police move into neighborhoods that the shooting is most likely to happen in. Why do they have to make life hard for us just because they had a hard time during their school days? This is what I think about gun violence in my school and nieborhood

My school is a safe place because there is hardly any fights or misbehaving. My nieghborhood is a safe place too because
there is never any shooting but sometimes there is fighting. I think if we take all the guns off the street the violence will
still increase because more crimes will be committed. If you take the guns people will just take knife and bats and kill
people with The violence will not stop it would just keep happening.

I think that guns should be taken off the street and from anyone that has a gun. They really shouldn’t even sell guns. I also think that gangs should be arrested. This morning I heard that thomas’s house was robbed and Terrell told me that his house was robbed too a few years back. I heard gunshots by my house months ago. A deacon of my church Donald Young was shot and killed.

No I dont think my neighborhood is safe because my cousin in law was shot a block away from my apartment. He was walking and these guy from what i heard started shooting at him. He would have died if his son in law didn’t call 911. He was shot in the gut . That’s not all. My mom went over there to make sure that my cousin-in-law’s son or my other cousin was ok but there where a lot of police and they were doing a search. Then one of them found the gun that was used to shoot my cousin. And everybody start shooting while my mom was out there. Luckily she was not injured.
Another reason while I feel my neihgbhood isn’t safe is because there are always guy out there fighting, breaking into our house and killing people. So my mom said she is moving away from this gun violence if she can find another house.
No I dont think my school is safe because it is a public school and any one or student can walk in here with a gun and start shooting at any time. Just last year a 6th grader was kippnapped and was missing for about a week. After that happened I didnt really think this school was a safe place even though she was found because there’s a chance that that could happen to us and we may not come back.
The solution to gun violence is for every child to wear a vest under their shirt and have hospitals in the school. Because there is no way that people are going to stop unless guns where not invented in the first place. And we can also wear a gun proof hat or helmet. They should make it cheap so every on can get one. We can also stop selling guns to just any one. To me that’s how we can stop gun violence.

Yes I think that our school is a very safe school. Because we never had a student that brought a gun to school. Also it is very safe because Mr. Hubbard is there and he makes sure that we are safe. Plus when there is a fire drill we never get up and just barge out and go out the door. We get in an orderly fashioned line and get our coats and walk out the door.But how our school can be a better school is if Mr. Hubbard checks our book bags when we come in the door so just in case a student might bring a weapon to school.

I think my neighborhood is a safe place. There are no robbers, no drugs, and no gang bangers. It is completely safe. Because I live on the north side of the city there are no bad things there. That is why I think my neighborhood is a safe place.

Little kids and teenagers have been killed for nothing. My hood where I’m living at is not safe because one night these drug dealers and gang bangers were fighting. Because he didn’t have this man’s money, the man was like “where my money”. Me and my auntie were leaving out the house when we saw them. I told my auntie let’s help him but she said no because she didn’t want us to get hurt so we step in the cab and kept going. Then these girls came and told that man to stop. So they took him into their house and helped him.

I think that my school is a good place to be because there are no people that breaking in. I think that my school is a good place to go because it is away from the people who have guns and stuff but it is kind of not a good place to have a school because of the location on the corner. I think that my neighborhood is not a good place to live. I think that my neighborhood is not a good place to live because of the guns that people use and the drugs. There is a park right down the street and a lot of people get shot. On our way home there were people using drugs. Another day we were on our way home and kids were throwing snowballs at my mother’s car. They have lots of fights in the park and they use guns. When we were in the car going home we once saw someone getting shot for no reason.
